How to Move a Piano Safely And Efficiently [Ultimate Solution]

How to Move a Piano? A common question among Piano Owners. It is really a frustrating due to its size, sensitivity and price that need proper equipment.

If you are a piano player who wants to shift from one place to another while making sure that your piano is shifted safely, this article is definitely made for you. Piano is a musical instrument which takes years to master.

Moreover, they are big in size, heavy, fragile and expensive too. A piano weighs around 300-1000 pounds or even more so moving it without any professional help seems like a very exhausting task.

Additionally, you have to take care that you don’t damage any part of it because it is very expensive.

How to Move a Piano-Before You Move Your Piano

Here is the equipments you will require with their use while moving a piano

    • Bubble wrap- bubble wrap is used to cover the fragile piano keys and pedals and also the delicate piano legs.
    • Moving blanket- it makes sure your piano is fully covered while moving so there will be no scratches or breakages.
    • Tape- tape will be used to secure the moving blanket in the right place and also the piano pedals and legs

 

  • Moving dolly- It is used to move the piano from one place to another easily. Make sure it is strong enough to carry the weight of your piano.
  • Straps- straps are placed on the moving blanket so that everything stays at its place.
  • Ramp- ramp comes to use while passing the piano through staircase and it inside a truck

With these given steps, you can easily move your piano with no professional help

Step 1:

Close the lid over the piano keyboard and if possible lock it because the keys are delicate. Remove the pedals and legs of the piano with the help of a screwdriver, if not possible, simply wrap up the pedals and legs with a bubble wrap sufficient to cover it fully and secure it with a tape. 

Step 2: 

Cover the piano with a moving blanket properly so that it won’t get any scratches while moving. Moreover, secure it with a tape. 

Step 3:

With the help of your friends and family carefully lift the piano and place a moving dolly beneath and then place the piano on the dolly. 

Step 4:

Secure the piano covered with moving blankets and on the moving dolly with straps good enough to keep it safe while moving.

Step 5:

Slowly move the piano with your helpers while making sure there is no obstacle in your way and also the piano is safe to move. Also watch out if the pedals and legs do not break. You should use a ramp while moving a piano downstairs. Moreover, you will require 5-6 people to move a heavy piano.

Step 6:

Once you take the piano out of your house, place the ramp on the truck for loading it inside then slowly place the piano inside the truck. Moreover, make sure the piano is secured while transporting to prevent any accidents.

Step 7:

After you move the piano to your new house. Remove the coverings, tapes and straps and assemble the pedals and legs properly. Afterwards remove the moving dolly and place the piano on an even surface. You can also wipe it out after shifting.
